Why do all the smart ones want to be ninjas?

Ok, so my 17 yr old cousin was in town this weekend. She brought our kids back to our house to baby sit them while we were at my brothers graduation party last night. This morning in the car ride on the way to meet up with the rest of the family for breakfast she said she had a dream last night where Courtland (my 8 yr old ds) took some kind of intelligence test and that we had discovered that he was going to go Yale or Stanford. After we kinda laughed a bit we started talking about how Courtland really was very smart and that he probably will be able to go to Yale or Stanford someday. I said "and then maybe he'll be a doctor", to which he promptly replied "I don't want to be a doctor". So I said "OK you can be whatever you want to be," he thought for a second and said "I want to be a ninja"

I guess I'll get back with him about this in a few years. Good thing we have plenty of time to make that decision....LOL!

Lillie

So I have decided along with writing about my musings I am also going to add in funny little things that lIllian and Courtland say because...well they are hilarious!

So the first one I could think of is...
one day Clay was in San Antonio and Lillie was talking to him on the phone. (we were planning on all being in SA the next weekend) So I told Lillie "tell daddy when we are in San Antonio next week we are going to the zoo" She proceeded to cover the phone with her hand pull it away from her face and say to me " Mommy I don't want to go to the zoo, I don't want to see the monkeys." So for months afterwards we have asked her why she doesn't want to go to the zoo to see the monkeys and she says "because they will keep me there!"

Anyway, enjoy... I will keep them coming as I remmeber them.

Boulder

So i want to move to Boulder Colorado. Well at least outside of Boulder between Boulder and Denver. I think that this would be an exciting move for us. i have read a lot about Boulder and I think we would really like it there. The cost of living is really high though. Clay is freaking out about that...I think mostly he's freaking out about moving and especially to a different state. We would be 16 hours from my family and 12 hours from his. Our life would definately be different. i mean I live in the town I went to school in and my parents still live in the same house. So I am essentially a bike ride away from my parents and grandmother. But I really want to try something new. I love Colorado...not so much the cold, I would get used to that, but the beauty and nature, and people still care about the land there. Anyway, I m not a tree hugger but I do want to appreciate the outdoors more and I love hiking, biking and water sports. i think I would really love winter sports too. Anyway, if you have any comments about Boulder or Colorado please share.

Alice in Wonderland

Mom and I hit up some garage sales this morning and I got four of the most awesome Alice in Wonderland plates ever. They are like what you would imagine the original pictures to have been from the book, before Disney made the movie. I hung them on the bar between living room and kitchen they match my colors and they are awesome! DH said "you should hang them in Lillian's room", but I decided they were too cool to put them in a room that is hardly ever seen. Anyway, only payed $15 for all 4! I am super excited about them.

Got some other cool stuff to...funky lamp, vintage lamp, an African batik with a woman with a child in a sling. Can't wait to get that one framed. Anyway all in all a pretty successful trip if I do say so myself.

Nurse your babies!

I know this is probably going to offend some people and I am sorry! But, Mommies in this day and age and knowing what we know about nursing. Why would you not nurse your baby! There is no difference in my opinion than a woman who drinks or smokes during pregnancy, because its her choice, her body, its too hard to quit, I tried but I didn't like it...blah, blah, blah it is worth the sacrifice. And all you have to do is ask and someone will help you.

Formula is not as good for their nutrition, bottles leach chemicals into their formula, you miss out on the extra special bonding, higher chance of obesity in later life and the list goes on.

We and that includes myself, are to spoiled to even give our kiddos the best that we can offer them. Slow down, take time out of your life... at most the hard part is only 2mos for a lifetime of health and intelligence.

THINK ABOUT IT!

I am so sorry if any of my good friends see this and are offended but these are my true feelings!

More on Pan' Labyrinth

Ok so I decided after I wrote my first blog that I needed to give you all more and to be quite honest i'm a bit lazy to sit here and list out all the feelings I had about the movie so I went and stole someone elses answer. this is kinda like cheating on an examine...sorry! But I feel almost exactly like the guy that wrote this review. But I was interested to note that he did not mention the God ending... So there are definatley a lot of other things to be said about this movie that he leaves out...so i would love to hear your responses after you see the movie. or if you have already seen it.

OK so the following would be similar to my response if I wasn't too lazy to write my own:

"i rented pan's labyrinth recently, and immediately after watching it, i went online to try to find some answers...as i came to find out people had two extreme views on this movie... either loved it and praised it as the MASTERPIECE or hated it and thought it was a waste of time... i personally didnt think it was as good as it was said to be. i will follow this up with some explaination on my view, so for those who posted in previous threads with STRONG opinions, please do the same... i think the mere "i think the movie is way over ur head" or "maybe ur too ignorant to understand the true meaning" would not be enough to convey any substantial idea or argument, just goes to show maybe u dont really have a real take on the movie as well...i think this was an ok movie... while the previews and the synopsis on the back cover were both misleading, it still managed to produce some orignal effects and elements... however, i came to believe that there was absolutely no connection between the fantasy and the real world because:1. i believe ofelia created the whole fantasy world outta thin air due to loneliness... u can tell that it's only in her head because nothing happened until the bug turned into a fairy after being shown a picture of it by ofelia... it just goes to show that the entire fantasy world was forced into exsistance in her head... she convinced herself that the bug took shape as a fairy hence convinced herself to follow it into the labyrinth to talk to a faun no one could see...2. im not convinced that the fantasy world was created to help her deal with the harsh reality... as we can see, except the fact that she knew her father used to be a tailor and died... the war didnt really have an effect on her... she was kept in the dark about everything. she had no idea that the captain killed people, she had no idea what the people in the woods were for, she probably didnt even know what was really happening in the war... all she wanted to do was get away, because she didnt like it there. not one place in the movie did it explain how the "harsh reality" was affecting the girl... hence there's no connection!the scene with the eye monster was comepletely uneccessay... it never was there to express anything... i think it was just a scene used to show off a cool monster they had no other place for... ok, maybe it showed in this scene that ofelia could be distracted by glamour or baited by delicious treats... but it did not make sense. the faun made it very clear not to eat anything while she's there, so why didnt she listen? she trusted him enough to crawl into a tiny hole in a tree... to face a giant toad... to follow some flying fairy into a creepy labyrinth... to talk to a scary looking faun, uh... dont think 2 stupid peices of grape would have been able to distract her enough to break the rules. it made no sense!the flower of immortality in the story symbolizes something... something good in humanity, so naturally it's surrounded by poisonous thorns, so normal people cant easily get to it... it's obvious the movie tried to say that everyone is treading around the thorns, trying, but unable to obtain this goodness... at the end, it seemed that ofelia has finally reached this goal... but what did she really do that was so holy and good??? what about the mom? at the very end, she was seen to be sitting next to the king, so obviously she's reached this happy place... but why and how??? she never willingly sacrificed herself for the innocent... if anything she dragged ofelia into a mess and giving up on her, so if anything she should have been punished.lastly, the theme and message of the movie was so vague and obscure, it's almost annoying... i know that it's meant to be for ur own interpretations, but come on... we all know that it's just a simple way to say "i cant find a good way to end this, so lets make it obscure and leave it up for debate"... irresponsible!if anyone can answer some of these questions, please do reply... this movie is pretty decent, probably a 7 out of 10... however, not like a perfectly fresh flick as some of you proposed... maybe it is a perfect 10... maybe ur seeing something im not, so enlighten me with substantial and convincing responses"
